Umberto Eco, The Name of the Rose: The answers you find depend on the questions you ask.  Modern linguistics developed from people asking different questions and exploring the answers to those questions.
I describe the world, the universe in English; not only English, but the particular dialect of English that is peculiar to me and me alone.  It follows that if my dialect of English describes my universe perfectly, then I would want others to learn my language so that they could see the world as I see it.
